Janokuchi Falls in the southern part of Yakushima, a World Natural Heritage site, is a hidden wilderness waterfall that spreads out deep beyond a subtropical primeval forest. It appears at the end of a trekking course of about 3.5 kilometers one way from a trailhead near Onoaida hot spring, where a clear stream slides gently down smooth granite. Even on Yakushima, which sees many tourists, few people come here, making it a little known power spot where you can feel the power of nature in the silence.

Difficulty is intermediate - Public transport access is difficult, so a rental car is recommended
A Quick Tip
This is a serious trek that takes nearly half a day round trip, so be sure to bring hiking boots, plenty to drink and rain gear. When the weather turns, the streams can swell, so it is important to be willing to turn back rather than push on. After descending, a rest at the nearby Onoaida hot spring is recommended.
