Toba Onsen Resort

The inns scattered along the coast of Toba, cradled within Ise-Shima National Park, are together known as the Toba Onsen Resort. Bathing while watching island silhouettes in the bay and the passing fishing and sightseeing boats brings the open feeling unique to seaside springs. Each inn draws its own water, so you can enjoy differences in water quality and views.

Highlights

Toba is known as the birthplace of pearl cultivation, and an island facility in the bay lets you learn the history of pearl making and watch demonstrations by traditional women divers. A large aquarium introduces a wide variety of sea creatures and is popular with families. Boats leave Toba's port for nearby small islands, making a short trip to see island life and rocky shores a fine option.

Enjoying the Seasons

Winter brings spiny lobster, oysters, and other seafood into season, perfect for a trip pairing flavors with hot springs. From spring through autumn the calm sea and island views are soothing, and at dusk the setting sun colors the bay. An open-air bath with the sea breeze is special in every season.

Access and Basic Information

Toba Station on the Kintetsu and JR lines is the gateway, and many visit together with a pilgrimage to Ise Jingu. By car, access is via the Ise Expressway and the Ise-Futami-Toba Line. Some inns welcome day bathers, so you can drop in between sightseeing.

A Quick Tip

If seafood is your aim, confirm the meal plan when booking to raise your satisfaction. Rooms and baths with fine views are popular, so booking early is reassuring.
