Hanging over the Matsukawa gorge in Takayama Village, Kaminari Falls is a powerful and famous cascade of about 30 meters. Because the rock face directly beneath the lip is hollowed out like an eave, you can step around behind the falls and look up at the cascading water, which is why it is also called the backside waterfall.
