In Kunigami Village, at the northern tip of the main island of Okinawa, Daisekirinzan is a leading sacred site of Okinawa alongside Sefa-utaki. It is a storied place where Amamikiyo, the island-building deity of the Ryukyu creation myth, is said to have first descended and created Asumui, the first sacred site of Okinawa. Strange rocks and giant stones, formed over a vast span of time from limestone about 200 million years old, stand in forests, and among this overwhelming scenery lie sights brimming with natural power, such as a matchmaking rock and one of the largest prayer banyans in Japan.
