Nomizo Falls and Kameiwa Cave

Nomizo Falls and the Kameiwa Cave, at the Shimizu Stream Park in Kimitsu, are among the finest scenic spots in Boso, made famous in recent years through social media. River water spills through a cave that was dug by hand in the Edo period to draw water for farming. In the early morning, light streaming from deep within the cave reflects on the water surface, and when light and shadow overlap to form a heart shape, the scene feels like something out of a dream.

Highlights

- When conditions align, light passing through the cave and reflecting on the water draws a heart shape. - The stream, wrapped in green moss and gentle ripples, has a mystical atmosphere reminiscent of an animated film. - A well-kept walking path lets visitors stroll leisurely while enjoying the forest air.

Enjoying the Seasons

The light is said to form a heart shape most readily in the early mornings around the spring and autumn equinoxes. Fresh greenery in spring, deep green in summer, autumn foliage, and a dusting of snow in winter each give the place a different face. The quiet hours when morning mist rises are especially dreamlike.

Access and Basic Information

- About 10 minutes by car from Kazusa-Kameyama Station on the JR Kururi Line. - Roughly 25 minutes by car from the Kisarazu-Higashi interchange on the Ken-O Expressway, with free parking. - From the park entrance, the falls are about a 10-minute walk along the path, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

A Quick Tip

To catch the heart-shaped light, aim for the early morning a little after sunrise. The ground can be muddy, so wear non-slip shoes. Many people set up tripods for photos, so it is a spot best enjoyed by sharing space with others.
