Komamiya Shrine

Komamiya Shrine, near the coast of Nichinan in Miyazaki Prefecture, stands at the site of a palace where Emperor Jimmu is said to have spent his boyhood, known as the boyhood palace site. Affectionately called Komamiya-san by locals, it is a hidden power spot with a quiet seaside setting yet a deep sense of history.

Its founding is uncertain, but as an old shrine honoring Emperor Jimmu it has long drawn faith. Many tales tied to horses remain, including a legend that Emperor Jimmu received a dragon horse from a dragon deity, and a tradition that this is the birthplace of the Shanshan horse.
