Sekinoo Falls in Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture, is a celebrated waterfall within the Kirishima Geopark and one of Japan top 100 waterfalls. About 40 meters wide and 18 meters high, the great cascade thunders down in a spray of mist. Though modest as a tourist site, it is a hidden spot where you can feel the power of nature.
The greatest highlight is the field of river potholes spreading above the falls. Formed as pebbles spun by the current carved cylindrical holes into the bedrock over vast stretches of time, the field is said to be unrivaled in scale anywhere in the world and is designated a national natural monument.
