Akasaka Hikawa Shrine

In a corner of the office district of Akasaka, Minato Ward, Tokyo, Akasaka Hikawa Shrine sits quietly. Its halls were built on the present site by order of the eighth shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune, in the Edo period, making it a precious shrine that conveys its original appearance to this day. Enshrining the married deities Susanoo no Mikoto and Kushiinadahime no Mikoto, it is counted among the three great matchmaking shrines of Tokyo alongside Tokyo Daijingu and the Tokyo Branch of Izumo Taisha, known for blessings of good relationships, marital harmony, and protection from misfortune.
