Otsukayama

Otsukayama, in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi, is a low hill just beside Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. Honoring the ancient Japanese hero Yamato Takeru and long used as a place to worship Mount Fuji from afar, it is regarded as one of the roots of Fuji faith. Shrine tradition says that Yamato Takeru gazed upon the spirit of Fuji from this spot during his eastern campaign, and a small shrine was later built on the hill in memory of that event.

It is not a flashy attraction, and for that very reason its quiet and purity remain intact, making it a lesser-known cleansing power spot where bad fortune and inner doubt are said to be washed away.
