Oagata Shrine

Oagata Shrine, located in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, is an ancient shrine with over 2,000 years of history as the second-ranked shrine of Owari Province. It sits at the southern foot of Mount Hongu and has long been affectionately known to locals as "Oagata-san." Though close to the famous Inuyama Castle, most of its visitors are local worshippers, making it a hidden power spot known to those in the know.

Highlights

- Hime-no-Miya: A subordinate shrine standing beside the main hall, revered as a guardian of women and believed to bless visitors with good matches, safe childbirth, and fertility. Heart-shaped votive plaques and countless dedicated wishes reflect the deep devotion of female worshippers. - Main Hall (National Important Cultural Property): Built in the distinctive Owari-zukuri architectural style, this dignified structure was rebuilt during the Edo period. - Mountain Path to the Inner Shrine: An inner shrine sits atop Mount Hongu, and a light hike up to it rewards visitors with a sweeping view over the Owari Plain.

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring, the Plum Festival fills the grounds with the soft pink of weeping plum blossoms. The sight of around 400 weeping plum trees in full bloom is breathtaking and wonderfully photogenic. Summer brings cool, lush greenery, autumn offers colorful foliage, and winter allows for quiet worship in crisp, clear air.
