Hashiudo Shrine

On a quiet street one block south of Kobe lively Motomachi shopping arcade, Hashiudo Shrine stands tucked away in stillness. Although it sits in the bustling heart of the city, it has long been cherished as a hidden spot for good fortune known mainly to locals. According to shrine tradition it boasts a history of more than eleven hundred years and has been carefully preserved as the guardian shrine of the old Hashiudo village.

The enshrined deity is Sugawara no Michizane, famed as the god of learning, with Amaterasu Omikami and Ojin enshrined alongside. The shrine is known for a wide range of blessings, including success in study and skill in calligraphy, as well as good luck, health and longevity, protection from misfortune, and prosperity in business.
