Enjoying the Seasons

In spring the greenery along the river buds and pairs well with a stroll and a soak. Summer brings coolness on the river breeze, and autumn colors the surrounding trees. In winter the warmth of the water is all the more welcome, heating you slowly from within.

Access and Basic Information

  • About 5 to 10 minutes by car from JR Hayato Station, with the spa area spreading between the Amori River and National Route 223
  • About 20 minutes by car from Kagoshima Airport, easy to visit at the start or end of a trip
  • Regarded as one of the oldest hot springs in Kagoshima, known for its soft, gentle water
  • Day bathing facilities and inns are scattered about, so it is easy to visit

Practical Travel Notes

  • Hinatayama Onsen has public baths and day use facilities dotted about, a bathing spot rooted in local daily life. Fees are reasonable, generally from a few hundred yen, making it easy to drop by.
  • Opening hours and rest days differ by facility, so if you have a particular bath in mind, confirm in advance. Some public baths open from early morning, so a morning bath may be possible.
  • Because it is only about 20 minutes by car from Kagoshima Airport, it is easy to work a visit into a plan using the wait before a flight. Historic sites tied to Saigo Takamori are scattered nearby.
  • After bathing, a stroll along the Amori River, or a longer trip to nearby spots such as Kirishima Onsen village or Myoken Onsen, is also recommended.

A Quick Tip

Hinatayama Onsen is close to the airport, making it easy to visit at the start or end of a trip. Historic sites tied to Saigo Takamori lie nearby, so pairing your bath with a walk through history makes the trip richer. When using a public bath, remember to be considerate of local residents.
