Kumonoue Onsen

This hot spring rises in Yusuhara, a highland town known as part of the route by which Sakamoto Ryoma left the Tosa domain. The town is famous for its deep ties to Kengo Kuma, an architect celebrated for wooden design, and warm timber buildings dot the surroundings.

Highlights

Set at high elevation, it is wrapped, as its name suggests, in air so clear you feel above the clouds. The bathhouse, generously built with local timber, brims with warmth, and you can soak quietly while gazing at the ranges leading toward the Shikoku Karst.

Enjoying the Seasons

Summer offers a cool highland escape, and autumn colors the mountains beautifully. Winter spreads out snowscapes and clear starry skies. The nearby Shikoku Karst reveals grand highland scenery that changes with each season.

Access and Basic Information

The facility is located in Yusuhara Town, Takaoka District, Kochi Prefecture. It is about ninety minutes by car from central Kochi and is also accessible from the Matsuyama direction. It operates mainly for day-use bathing.

A Quick Tip

Combine your visit with a tour of the town's architecture, including the Kengo Kuma library and the wooden bridge museum. It also makes a handy base for the Shikoku Karst.
