Oshitoishi no Oka
On a hill about eight hundred and forty five meters high in Minamioguni, Aso District, Kumamoto, Oshitoishi no Oka is dotted with several hundred giant stones of all sizes. The largest, the Oshitoishi, is a pyramid shaped boulder about five and a half meters tall and fifteen meters around that overwhelms all who see it. These stones are said to form an arrangement set by human hands, and as a mysterious power spot evoking prehistoric megalithic culture it has drawn attention even from international societies of rock art.

Access and Basic Information
- Location: Nakabaru, Minamioguni, Aso District, Kumamoto - By car: About forty minutes from Aso Station and about twenty five minutes from Kurokawa Onsen. - You enter the hill after checking in at the reception. Compasses are available to borrow. - From the parking area you walk gently up to the top of the hill.
A Quick Tip
The hilltop is windy, so take care that your hat is not blown off. Borrow a compass and be sure to experience the wonder of it spinning beside the giant stones.
