Kohagiyama Inari Shrine

Set on a hilltop about eight hundred and forty meters high in Minamioguni, Aso District, Kumamoto, Kohagiyama Inari Shrine is a power spot known to few that combines stunning views with divine blessings. Among the many Inari shrines across the country, this is the one famed for helping people seek a partner and find love. Long ago, when lost cattle and horses were prayed for here they were said to turn up with uncanny ease, and over time that reputation for finding lost things grew into finding a sweetheart, so today many women and couples make the trip.

Highlights

- A magnificent panorama below the hall, with grasslands stretching some ten kilometers and the five peaks of Aso. - A dreamlike sea of clouds filling the valleys, met with luck in the early morning. - A small hole opened in the wall of the hall, a unique design as if the deity were gazing out at the scenery. - The sense of having a sweeping vista all to yourself, perched quietly alone on the silent hilltop.

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring the grasslands clothed in young grass turn a soft green. Summer brings refreshing highland breezes, perfect for escaping the heat. Autumn sways with golden pampas grass and a higher chance of a sea of clouds. In winter the crisp air opens up a crisp, far reaching view.
