Takekoma Shrine

Standing in the urban area of Iwanuma, this venerable shrine is counted among Japans three Inari shrines. Said to have been founded in 842, it began when Ono no Takamura, also known as a Heian-era poet, came to serve as an official of Mutsu Province and enshrined a guardian deity of the northeast. With over a thousand years of history, it is a leading sacred site of the region, visited by many worshippers each year.

The enshrined deities are three, beginning with Uka no Mitama, together praised as the great Takekoma Inari deity. Long worshipped as a god of bountiful harvests, business prosperity, and safety at sea, in recent years it has also been cherished as a god of traffic safety, warding off misfortune, safe childbirth, and good matches. The scenery woven by the vermilion hall and the rows of gates is solemn and steadies the hearts of visitors.

Passing through each one seems to cleanse the spirit. - A variety of charms and tokens for praying for business prosperity and good harvests. Many visit at turning points in work or enterprise.
