Todoroki Gorge

In Takaki in Isahaya City in Nagasaki Prefecture, Todoroki Gorge rises from Mount Tara as a clear stream where thirty waterfalls large and small follow one after another. It has been chosen among Japan one hundred famous waters by the Ministry of the Environment, and the surrounding forest is also listed among one hundred forests of headwaters. Wrapped in clear water and rich greenery, it is a healing nature spot full of fresh air.

The standout is Todoroki Falls, about twelve meters high, whose roar echoes in a wide basin with great force. The path is well kept, letting you come right up to the falls. Fireflies, sculpin, freshwater crabs, and yamame trout live here, as only a clear stream allows.
