In Chofu City, Tokyo, Jindaiji is a celebrated temple said to have a history second only to Sensoji among the citys temples. Said to have been founded in the Nara period, it preserves a matchmaking legend tied to the water deity Jinja Daio, and is known as a power spot for matchmaking, success in love, and protection from misfortune. Surrounded by abundant spring water and the greenery of Musashino, its grounds offer deep healing just a short trip from the city center. The famous Jindaiji soba lining the approach is one of the pleasures of a visit.

Combined with the adjacent Jindai Botanical Gardens, you can spend a full day enjoying the flowers and nature of every season.

A Quick Tip
As it is some distance from the train stations, taking a bus is convenient. The March Daruma Market gets very crowded, so a regular period is best for a relaxed visit. After praying, savor the famous soba at a shop along the approach and extend your trip to the Jindai Botanical Gardens for the classic way to enjoy the area.
