When you say Toyama Prefecture, it is a treasure trove of fine cuisine that prides itself on fresh seafood and abundant mountain bounty. But in fact, Instagrammable gourmet treats and sweets are appearing one after another! This time, we introduce five "photogenic gourmet treats" you absolutely must check out when you visit Toyama.

(1) Toyama Bay Sushi | Photograph the Colorful Jewelry Box As It Is

"Toyama Bay Sushi," in which seasonal toppings freshly landed in Toyama Bay shine, is a plate just like a jewelry box. The purple of firefly squid, the pearl-pink of shiro-ebi, and the lustrous orange of yellowtail gather on a single plate.

Shooting point: Aim for a window seat where natural light streams in, and shooting from directly overhead (perfectly overhead) is best. The lunchtime of 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. has the softest light, and the colors of the toppings look the most vivid.

Access: Many eateries in the city, such as "Kitokito Ichiba Toya Marche" in Toyama City. There are also plenty of shops within a 5-minute walk of Toyama Station.

(2) Shiro-ebi Burger | A Local Photogenic Burger Full of Toyama Character

The burger made with plenty of Toyama's specialty, shiro-ebi, is a most photogenic item, with the pale-pink shrimp overflowing from between the white buns!

Shooting point: Shoot the burger from a 45-degree diagonal angle and compose it so the cross-section layers are visible; that's great. To bring out the pale pink of the shrimp fritter, pick a bright seat with natural light or an outdoor table!

Best season: The outing season from spring to autumn is recommended.

Access: The burger originated at "IMIZU CAFE" inside the Michi-no-Eki Marugoto Imizu roadside station (296 Kagamimiya, Imizu City). The white shrimp burger is 650 yen including tax, and the cafe is open 10:00-17:00.

(3) Toyama's Namagashi and Japanese Confections | Art-Style Japanese Confections with Photogenic Pale Hues

The jo-namagashi (fresh seasonal confections) that reflect Toyama's heritage as a centre of traditional medicine are elegant with pale green and pastel colors, just like art. The designs change with the season, so your shot will be unique to the time you visit.

Shooting point: Arranging them on a white or wood-grain plate and shooting from directly overhead is the trend. The contrast with a black background is also fantastical. Shooting in the soft morning light gives a fluffy, elegant atmosphere.

Access: Available at Hikiami Kogetsudo Furusawa Main Store, a long-established Japanese-confection shop at 111-3 Furusawa, Toyama City (9:00-18:00, closed Mondays and Tuesdays plus occasional irregular holidays, tel 076-471-8755). It is also stocked at the Omiyage-dokoro souvenir shop beside the Shinkansen gates at Toyama Station and at the Toyama Daiwa department store confectionery counter.

(4) Masu no Sushi | The Traditional Round Form Is the Royal Road of "Photogenic" Souvenirs

"Masu no Sushi," a souvenir representative of Toyama, offers the best photogenic shutter chance the moment you open the round wooden container! The sight of cherry-colored trout (masu) beautifully arranged in a circle is moving no matter how many times you see it.

Shooting point: Filming the very moment you open the lid as a video is also popular. Shooting from directly overhead and capturing the whole wood-grain container in the frame makes the Japanese atmosphere stand out.

Access: Available for purchase inside Toyama Station at "Masu no Sushi Honpo Minamoto" and others.

(5) Toyama Black Ramen | A Jet-Black Bowl with Outstanding Impact

"Toyama Black," the local ramen that represents the prefecture, is defined by its jet-black broth made with dark soy sauce. The colour contrast of black broth, white noodles, green spring onion and pink chashu in a single bowl has outstanding impact when shot from directly above.

Shooting point: Shooting in front of a white wall or a bright background makes the black stand out and look even more photogenic. Inserting the hand holding it from the bottom of the frame gives a popular, stylish shot.

Access: Sold at roadside stations and shops at sightseeing spots in Toyama City. Also available around Toyama Station.

Toyama's gourmet food has not only the taste but also top-class visual impact! On your next trip, by all means take your camera and conquer Toyama's photogenic gourmet treats. โœˆ๏ธ
