Nishiura Onsen sits at the very tip of the slender Nishiura Peninsula, which juts into Mikawa Bay in Gamagori, Aichi. Inns line the slope that rises from the shore, and rooms and open-air baths look out over the calm water on nearly three sides. It is known as one of the most view-blessed spots in the Gamagori hot spring district.

Highlights

  • Ocean views that open in almost every direction thanks to the peninsula tip location
  • Walking paths such as the Manyo Komichi and the Haiku Trail named for classical poets
  • Soft, gentle water good for the skin
  • A lively base for sea fishing and marine sports

Enjoying the Seasons

In summer, visitors come to combine bathing with a dip at the neighboring sandy beach, and the breeze makes the post-bath glow especially pleasant. Spring and autumn are ideal for strolling along the quiet shore, while winter brings clear air for watching distant lights and the setting sun. The faces of sea and sky shift through the year.

Access and Basic Information

  • Location: Nishiura-cho, Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture
  • About 5 minutes by car from Meitetsu Gamagori Line Nishiura Station; a Meitetsu bus bound for the Nishiura Onsen area also runs from the station
  • About 30 minutes by car from the Otowa-Gamagori Interchange
  • Spring quality: gentle, skin-friendly simple hot spring (water good for the skin)
  • Set within the scenic Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park
  • Some inns with sea-facing open-air baths offer day-use bathing plans (fees and hours vary by inn, so check in advance)

Practical Travel Notes

  • Best season: summer is lively for sea bathing, but spring and autumn strolls with a clear sea, and winter night views of distant lights, are all worth seeing
  • Best time of day: dusk, as the sun sinks into the sea, is when the view from the open-air bath is the most beautiful of the day
  • Avoiding crowds: it gets busy during summer bathing season and on holiday weekends, so weekdays or an early arrival are best
  • Time needed: half a day for a walk along the Manyo Komichi and a soak, or an overnight stay to enjoy the sunset and a meal
  • Nearby real spots: the Manyo Komichi and Haiku Trail, the observation deck and Bell of Hope at Nishiura Park on the peninsula tip, the neighboring sandy beach, with seaside spots in Gamagori within driving range
  • Budget sense: day-use bathing is around a thousand yen; a meal plan featuring Mikawa Bay seafood or an overnight stay raises the satisfaction of the trip

A Quick Tip

Check in around dusk so you can enjoy the sinking light over the water and the warmth of the bath at the same time. Choosing an inn with a sea-facing room or open-air bath makes the stay far more rewarding. After your bath, walking the Manyo Komichi to take in the poem monuments and sea views together is a pleasure unique to this spring.
