๐ŸŠ Ehime|June 24, 2026

Shiraino Falls

In the Saragamine Range Prefectural Natural Park of Toon City, Ehime, Shiraino Falls plunges a remarkable 96 meters. Set in the valley of the Omote River in the upper reaches of the Shigenobu River, it has long been celebrated as a scenic spot. Poets such as Masaoka Shiki and Natsume Soseki are said to have visited and left many verses inspired by the place. A well-kept trail leads to the basin, and simply walking among the trees brings a refreshing sense of renewal.

Highlights

- The powerful spray of a 96-meter cascade and the cool, ion-rich air rising from it. - In winters of prolonged hard frost the whole falls freeze over, taking on a dreamlike form like a sculpture of ice. - A viewing platform and trail make it easy for anyone to admire the falls up close.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring brings fresh greenery, summer draws crowds seeking coolness, and autumn dresses the falls in brilliant foliage. Every year on November 3 the Shiraino Falls Festival is held, with rice-cake throwing and farm-produce stalls. The frozen falls of winter appear only during the few coldest days, a truly special sight.
