Shiraino Falls

In the Saragamine Range Prefectural Natural Park of Kawanouchi, Toon City, Ehime, Shiraino Falls plunges a remarkable 96 meters. Set in the valley of the Omote River in the upper reaches of the Shigenobu River system, it has long been celebrated as a scenic spot. The poet Masaoka Shiki is said to have visited in 1891 and Natsume Soseki in 1895, each leaving verses inspired by the falls and its foliage. Every year on November 3 (Culture Day) the Shiraino Falls Festival is held, lively with rice-cake throwing and farm-produce stalls. Access and Basic Information

• Location: Kawanouchi, Toon City, Ehime
• Access: About 15 minutes by car from the Kawauchi interchange on the Matsuyama Expressway via Route 494 and others, with signs along the way. It is about 8 kilometers from the interchange to the parking area.
• Parking: There is a free lot as well as a paid lot at 300 yen closer to the falls, both able to take large vehicles.
• Trail: You walk from the parking area to the falls. As it includes an uphill section, comfortable shoes are recommended.
