๐Ÿฆ• Fukui|June 24, 2026

Sakaenoyashiro

In the center of Fukui City, right beside the city hall, sits Sakaenoyashiro, a shrine enshrining three deities including Tokugawa Ieyasu, also known by the alternate name Echizen Toshogu. Despite its downtown location, it has a calm precinct, and locals casually drop by seeking blessings for passing exams, warding off misfortune, and family safety, making it a handy, lesser-known power spot. Within walking distance of JR Fukui Station, it is easy to visit on the way to sightseeing or shopping.

Highlights

Enjoying the Seasons

At New Year and during exam season it bustles with worshippers praying to pass, and in spring the grounds gain springlike color. Seasonal festivals and events are sometimes held, making it a familiar shrine tied to the life of the town. Stopping by quietly to pray during your sightseeing makes a fine pause in your journey.
