Ryusogataki Falls: A Dragon-Legend Power Spot in Ikeda
Ryusogataki Falls
Set in a mountain valley of Ikeda Town, Fukui Prefecture, Ryusogataki Falls drops about 60 meters and was chosen in 1990 as the only Fukui entry among Japan top 100 waterfalls. Legend says a monk named Ryuso once lived and trained here, and a dragon-god tale tells of a dragon dwelling in the basin that would climb the falls to ascend to heaven. Because you can approach right up to the falls, it is a hidden natural power spot where you can feel its bold form and abundant negative ions with your whole body.
Highlights
- A graceful waterfall about 60 meters high, splitting into several streams down the rock face - A mystical atmosphere alive with dragon legends - Dynamic power as you can walk close to the basin - Natural formations such as the pothole rocks scattered nearby
Enjoying the Seasons
From fresh-green spring into summer, the vivid greenery and spray bring coolness, perfect for escaping the heat. In autumn, the contrast of surrounding red leaves with the white flow of the falls is superb. Note that the road is usually closed in winter from late November to early April, so the snowy season is off-limits. The fresh-green to autumn-leaf seasons are the safest times to visit.
