Isonokami Futsumitama Shrine

On a mountaintop in Akaiwa, Okayama, Isonokami Futsumitama Shrine is a venerable ancient shrine recorded even in the Engishiki Jinmyocho of the Heian period and revered as the first shrine (ichinomiya) of Bizen Province. Its greatest distinction is its connection to the slaying of the great serpent of myth, and it enshrines Susanoo no Mikoto as its main deity.

Originally its sacred body was said to be Futsunomitama (the Totsuka no Tsurugi), the sword with which Susanoo no Mikoto slew the eight-headed serpent Yamata no Orochi.
