Yubasama Onsen — An Ancient Hilltop Spa Overlooking Okayama City
Yubasama Onsen
Perched on a hilltop north of Korakuen Garden in Naka Ward, Okayama City, Yubasama Onsen is an ancient spa carrying a heritage said to reach back to the Heian era. It is told to have been found by a noble exiled to Bizen, or opened widely by the monk Chogen in the Kamakura period.
Highlights
The purely Japanese-style inn on the hilltop, with sweeping views over the city, takes pride in a great stone bath built entirely of rock. A bath using a huge block of Taiwan marble and a tub evoking a mountain stream fill out an artfully designed space. The corridors within are made to recall an Edo-era highway.
Enjoying the Seasons
From the hilltop you can look over the streets of Okayama and the distant mountains, enjoying scenery that shifts with the seasons. Combined with city landmarks such as Korakuen Garden and Okayama Castle, it lets you savor history and hot springs in a single day.
