Kitakata Ramen and Storehouse Town Course

Kitakata ramen is counted among Japan three great ramen, and the town still keeps thousands of storehouses. This one-day course brings together food and history.

Course Route

8:30 Start at Kitakata Station Try the local morning ramen. Many shops open early, so begin the day with a light soy-flavored bowl.

10:00 Stroll the storehouse streets Wander the white-walled and brick storehouses that remain along Fureai Street and in the Otazuki district, and peek into miso and sake brewers.

12:00 A rest in a storehouse parlor At a cafe or small museum set inside an old storehouse, touch on the history of Kitakata merchant houses.

14:00 Visit the Kai Honke storehouse parlor See the fine parlor storehouse that conveys the life of a wealthy merchant and admire its craftsmanship.

Highlights

The clear-broth ramen of Kitakata and the many storehouses woven into daily life create the simple, warm scenery of the town.

Access and Tips

From JR Kitakata Station, mixing walking with a rental bicycle is handy. The storehouses are scattered across town, so pick up a walking map at the tourist information office.

A Quick Tip

Popular ramen shops can have lines. Aim for the quiet morning hours to enjoy a bowl without waiting.
