01 | Amabe Bridge (Amarube Kyo) / Kami Town

From the "Sky Walk" observatory facility built within the old bridge structure, you can frame breathtaking views through a glass floor.

Practical Information for Your Visit

• Best season and time of day: The sea of clouds at the Takeda Castle ruins appears in the early morning, usually from September to November. The pampas grass at Tonomine Highland is at its best from late September to early November (turning golden around late October). The "Sky Station" observation facility at the Amarube Bridge is open from 6:00 to 21:30, with seasonal illuminations as well.
• Opening hours and event periods: Genbudo Park is open 9:00 to 17:00 (no entry after 16:30, closed December 29 to January 3). The ropeway at Sumaura Sanjo Yuen is open 10:00 to 17:00, closed on Tuesdays (open when Tuesday falls on a public holiday). Entry times at the Takeda Castle ruins change with the season, and there are periods when you cannot climb up at all.
• Fees: Admission to the Takeda Castle ruins is 500 yen for high school students and above and free for junior high school students and younger (payment by cash or PayPay only). Genbudo Park is 500 yen for adults and 300 yen for students. The Sumaura Ropeway is 920 yen for an adult round trip and 500 yen one way (460 yen for an elementary school student round trip). The Amarube Bridge "Sky Station" and the Amarube Crystal Tower are free to enter. Parking at Tonomine Highland is generally free, but during the pampas grass event period a cooperation fee of 500 yen for an ordinary car and 200 yen for a motorcycle applies.
• Access: Amarube is directly connected to "Amarube Station" on the JR San'in Main Line. For the Takeda Castle ruins, it is about a 40-minute walk from "Takeda Station" on the JR Bantan Line by either the trail behind the station or the Hyomei Shrine trail. For Genbudo, take the ferry across the Maruyama River from JR "Genbudo Station" (operated by the Genbudo Museum, reservation required, about 7 minutes) or take a Zentan Bus and get off at "Genbudo Koen." For Tonomine Highland, take the Shinki Green Bus direct service from "Teramae Station" on the JR Bantan Line (seasonal, advance booking required) for about 40 minutes. Sumaura Sanjo Yuen is directly connected to "Sumaura-koen Station" on the Sanyo Electric Railway.
• Parking: The Amarube Bridge "Sky Station" and the Amarube Crystal Tower have free parking. Tonomine Highland has about 100 spaces. For parking conditions elsewhere, please check the official site of each facility.
• Photography rules: Amarube is an active railway bridge, so entering the track area or going beyond the fences is strictly prohibited. Genbudo Park is a national natural monument, and climbing on the rocks or taking rocks away is not permitted. Flying a drone requires permission from the facility or local authority concerned.
• Safety notes: At the Takeda Castle ruins the trails are dark in the early morning, and the ground is muddy during the sea-of-clouds season. Bring a light and non-slip shoes. The walking paths at Tonomine Highland are undulating, and autumn mornings are cold. At Sumaura Sanjo Yuen the ropeway operates only until 17:00, so manage your time so as not to be stranded on the mountain after sunset.
