Latticed-door townhouses lining narrow alleys, red "migawari-zaru (substitute monkeys)" swaying under the eaves. Naramachi is one of Nara's foremost retro spots, where townhouses from the Edo to Meiji periods still remain just as they were.

Photogenic Point: Aim a little low at the alleys where lattice doors line up for a three-dimensional shot with depth. The contrast of white walls and the brown of wood is exquisite.

Best Shooting Time: The 9–10 o'clock hour when soft morning light streams in. Light and shadow create patterns in the alleys.

The castle itself does not survive, but the Yamato-Koriyama Castle ruins, where the stone walls and keep base remain, transform in spring into one of Nara's foremost photogenic spots, where about 800 cherry trees burst into bloom all at once!

Photogenic Point: The collaboration of inverted cherry blossoms reflected in the moat and the stone walls is truly a divine Instagram composition. The trick is to aim from a low angle right at the edge of the moat.

Best Shooting Time / Season: The cherry blossom season of late March to early April, during the 6–8 a.m. hours when there are few people, is recommended.

Photogenic Point: Zaodo wrapped in the pink of mountain cherry blossoms in spring and the red and gold of autumn leaves in autumn makes a frame-like shot in any season. An angle looking up from the stone steps of the approach is recommended.
