9:30 Start at Murakami Station From the station, head to the old quarter where machiya remain. Begin walking slowly, taking in the calm mood of the castle town.
10:00 A town walk touring machiya Murakami keeps many machiya dating from the Edo period. Many open their interiors, letting you see up close the tools of daily life and the ways of commerce.
11:30 Visit a salted salmon shop The salted salmon hung in rows under the eaves is a striking sight. It is a scene unique to Murakami, which cherishes salmon food culture, and specialty salmon eateries dot the area.
12:30 A salmon focused lunch In Murakami you can taste a wide variety of dishes that use every part of the salmon, from flesh to skin to innards. Savor the famous salmon cuisine at leisure.
14:00 Murakami Castle ruins Climb a little to the hilltop ruins for a sweeping view of the town and the Sea of Japan. A stroll while reflecting on history is recommended.
