Mikaeri Falls

Located in Ouchi, Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, Mikaeri Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the prefecture. Chosen among the One Hundred Famous Waterfalls of Japan, it is known as a power spot of purification, where the spray of vigorously falling water and the abundant negative ions seem to cleanse the hearts of visitors. Its name is said to come from how people looked back again and again at its beauty as they left, and its scenery captivates many throughout the seasons.

Highlights

- The force of the main falls plunging down in a single drop. Felt up close, the sound and spray are overwhelming. - The walking trail and suspension bridge leading to the falls. As you approach through the forest, fresh air surrounds you. - Tens of thousands of hydrangeas planted around the area, coloring the falls in early summer.

Enjoying the Seasons

The greatest draw is the hydrangea season from June to July. The scene woven by the falls and hydrangeas is exceptional, and a hydrangea festival is held. Summer brings crowds seeking cool relief, autumn dresses the falls in colored leaves, and the falls wrapped in winter silence have their own charm.
