The greatest charm of Niji no Matsubara is the vast pine grove of about 1 million black pines continuing endlessly along Karatsu Bay. Because its arc along the coastline resembles a rainbow, it was named "Niji no Matsubara (Rainbow Pine Grove)." Driving the straight road running through the pine forest, the pines lining both sides form a beautiful tunnel for a refreshing feeling. Access and Basic Information

Access to Niji no Matsubara is convenient via JR Chikuhi Line "Niji no Matsubara Station," where the pine grove spreads out right as you leave the station. It is about two stops from Karatsu Station, and by car you can also enjoy driving the road through the grove. Parking spaces and walking paths are developed along the grove, serving as a base for strolling and ocean swimming. A road leads to the summit observation deck of Kagamiyama, so travel by car is convenient. There is no charge to view the pine grove itself.

In summer, ocean swimming can be enjoyed at the sandy beach adjacent to the grove. Since the grove stretches about 4.5 kilometers, rather than walking the whole length, an efficient combination is strolling the walking paths near the station and taking in the overview from the Kagamiyama observation deck. Local Karatsu souvenirs such as shoro-manju are also popular.
