Tashima Shrine, set on Kabeshima island in Yobuko, Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, is one of the most prestigious old shrines in the former Hizen province. Its founding reaches far back in time, and it is said that in the Nara period the imperial court bestowed upon it the name Tashima Daimyojin. It enshrines three goddesses to whom fishermen prayed for rescue when facing danger in the rough waves of the Genkai Sea, and it has long drawn wide faith as a guardian of safe voyages. The openness unique to an island surrounded by the sea coexists with the solemn air of an ancient shrine, making it a true power spot.
