At the northern tip of Karatsu City, in the port town of Yobuko facing the Genkai Sea, lies Yobuko Onsen. The town has the lively spirit of a fishing community famous nationwide for its live squid sashimi, and baths overlooking the sea offer views of Yobuko Bridge and a calm inlet.

Highlights

From baths that command the sea, you can watch the graceful silhouette of Yobuko Bridge arcing over blue water and the fishing boats coming and going. Bathing amid the sea breeze brings an openness unique to a port town. Yobuko Bridge, opened in 1989, links the island of Kabeshima across the water with the mainland, and its beautiful arch is a symbol of Yobuko. And when it comes to Yobuko, the translucent live squid sashimi is a must. Its firm texture and sweetness are exceptional, and paired with the hot spring it makes an unforgettable travel memory.

Enjoying the Seasons

Yobukos squid changes by season, so fresh flavor can be enjoyed year round. Spring and summer bring the light kensaki squid, while autumn and winter offer a different depth of taste. In summer the area also bustles as a base for coastal marine leisure.
