Practical Information for Your Visit

• Day bathing (Karatsu Seaside Hotel, West Wing, Karatsu Seaside Onsen): 9:00-20:00 (reception closes at 19:00). On weekdays, 1,800 yen for adults, 1,300 yen for elementary school students and 900 yen for young children (aged 4 to 6); on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, 2,000 yen for adults, 1,400 yen for elementary school students and 1,000 yen for young children (all prices include a rental towel and the bathing tax). The baths in the East Wing are for overnight guests only and cannot be used by day visitors
• Day bathing (Kagamiyama Onsen Chaya Bijin no Yu): 4733 Kagami, Karatsu City. 10:00-22:00 (last entry 21:30). 800 yen for adults and 450 yen for children, or 700 yen for adults and 400 yen for children after 17:00. Closed on the third Thursday of the month (with a special closure on December 31; open every day in January, February and August)
• Spring quality: Karatsu Seaside Onsen is a sodium chloride strong salt spring (hypertonic, neutral, hot spring). Because the source temperature is 37.3 degrees Celsius the water is heated before use, and the flow rate is 200 liters per minute. The indications given officially include chronic pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints, sensitivity to cold, poor peripheral circulation, recovery from fatigue, cuts and dry skin
• Access: Karatsu Seaside Hotel is about 5 minutes by car (about 20 minutes on foot) from Higashi-Karatsu Station on the JR Chikuhi Line. Between 9:00 and 18:00 there is a free shuttle to and from Higashi-Karatsu Station with advance reservation. Kagamiyama Onsen Chaya is about an 8-minute walk from Nijinomatsubara Station on the JR Chikuhi Line, or about 5 minutes from Hamatama Interchange on the Karatsu Road
• Parking: Karatsu Seaside Hotel has free parking for 80 vehicles (with charging equipment for 2 EV or PHEV vehicles). Kagamiyama Onsen Chaya has 50 spaces
• Bathing etiquette: Karatsu Seaside Hotel does not admit bathers with tattoos (including stickers and imitation tattoos)
• Other notes: Karatsu Seaside Hotel limits the number of day bathers admitted, so you may have to wait. There is a bathing discount for those who have eaten at the restaurant (1,000 yen for adults on weekdays, 1,200 yen on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays). Kagamiyama Onsen Chaya does not accept credit cards
