10:00 Start at Ashikaga Flower Park Station Begin at Ashikaga Flower Park Station on the JR Ryomo Line. Opened in 2018, the station is only about a 3 minute walk from the main gate, offering excellent access.10:10 Enjoy flowers at Ashikaga Flower Park Visit the park where more than 350 wisteria bloom, including a great wisteria spreading across some 600 tatami of trellis and an 80 meter white wisteria tunnel. It changes its look by season, with spring wisteria, early summer roses, and autumn amethyst sage.
12:30 Move to central Ashikaga for lunch Take the train toward Ashikaga Station and have lunch downtown. The local specialty sauce katsudon is popular.
14:00 Visit Ashikaga Gakko Head to Ashikaga Gakko, said to be the oldest school in Japan and certified as Japan Heritage. Pass through the elegant gate and touch the history of learning on quiet grounds where a statue of Confucius stands.
15:30 Stroll Banna-ji and the temple town Visit Banna-ji, very close to Ashikaga Gakko. This ancient temple stands on the site of a samurai residence, and the surrounding temple town retains an old townscape.
17:00 Head home In winter, returning to the flower park after sunset to enjoy the Garden of Illuminated Flowers, one of Japan three great illuminations, is also recommended.
