Course Route

9:30 Start at Kinugawa Onsen Station Begin at Kinugawa Onsen Station on the Tobu Railway. There is a footbath in front of the station, so first get into the travel mood.

10:00 Step into Edo at Edo Wonderland Take a bus to Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura. This theme park recreates an Edo era townscape, including a post town, merchant streets, and a ninja village, with lifelike realism. Enjoy programs from several theaters, such as the ninja show and the oiran show. It opens at 9:00, and a thorough visit takes a good half day.

13:00 Savor Edo cuisine in the village Rest with food full of Edo atmosphere, such as soba and dango. Walking the town in costume is also popular.

14:30 Stroll the gorge at Ryuokyo Move to Ryuokyo near Kinugawa Onsen Station. A dynamic gorge unfolds where volcanic rock has been carved over long ages. Walk the trail and view the falls and unusual rocks. The stroll is free to enjoy.

16:00 Bathe at Kinugawa Onsen Return to the hot spring town and ease the day fatigue in an open air bath overlooking the gorge. Many inns offer day use bathing.

17:30 Return to Kinugawa Onsen Station After refreshing, return to the station and head home.

Access and Tips

For Ryuokyo, Ryuokyo Station on the Yagan Railway is convenient. The theme park takes several hours to tour thoroughly, so arriving at opening time is ideal.

Practical Travel Notes

• Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura: Admission uses a ticket called a passage token. A one day pass is about 5,800 yen for adults and about 3,000 yen for children as a guide, and a discounted afternoon token is available after 14:00. Hours run 9:00 to 17:00 (about 9:30 to 16:00 in winter), and it closes on days such as Wednesday outside peak periods. Check the closed days and show times on the official site before visiting to enjoy it efficiently.
• Ryuokyo: Strolling the trail is free. You can start walking from Ryuokyo Station, and since the path has ups and downs, comfortable shoes are wise.

• Parking at EDO WONDERLAND Nikko Edomura: 800 yen for a car, 400 yen for a motorcycle and 1,300 yen for a microbus or large bus.
• Ryuo Gorge: The car park has public toilets available 24 hours (including an accessible toilet, and they are not closed in winter). Walkers on the hiking trails are warned about mountain leeches, so it is safer to avoid exploring in sandals or bare feet.
• Kinuta-no-Yu (foot bath and hand bath in front of Kinugawa Onsen Station): Open 9:00 to 18:00 all year round (hours may vary by season) and free to use. It is right outside Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen Station.
