Sano Onsen Fukunoyu a Rare Free-Flowing Sulfate Spring

๐Ÿฆ• Fukui|July 3, 2026

Sano Onsen Fukunoyu

Springing up in the Sano district on the outskirts of Fukui City, Sano Onsen Fukunoyu is a day-trip bath that lavishly lets its hot source of over seventy degrees flow freely. Its pride is a sodium and calcium sulfate water, a rare quality even nationwide.

Highlights

Both the mens and womens baths have open-air sections, and the slightly hot free-flowing source water warms the body to the core. The attached dining hall serves dishes made with seasonal ingredients from sea and mountain.

Enjoying the Seasons

In winter the deeply warming water is especially welcome, and you can enjoy the open-air bath amid the snow. In summer savor local seafood after your bath, and in autumn the bounty of the mountains.

Access and Basic Information

It is about thirty minutes by bus from JR Fukui Station, alighting at the Sano Onsen-guchi stop. A free shuttle bus also runs from around Fukui Station, making it easy to visit even without a car.

A Quick Tip

Because the source is very hot, it is easy to overheat, so soaking slowly while taking frequent breaks is recommended.
