Ryujin Falls

Ryujin Falls, on the Arakai River in Minami-Aizu Town, Fukushima, is also called the Blue Fall because its basin glows a jade-like green. Though modest at about four meters high, the beauty of its basin is breathtaking. Enshrining a rain-praying dragon deity, it is a hidden, secluded cascade known only to a few.

Highlights

- A basin glowing jade green, whose beauty earns it the name Blue Fall, a mystical sight. - A history of faith in the dragon deity who governs rain and water. Legend says a shrine for praying for rain was built here during a drought. - An approach unique to a secluded place, passing through a red torii gate from the trailhead along the highway. - The natural stream scenery continuing downstream from the falls.

Enjoying the Seasons

From spring into summer the water volume grows and the green basin shines all the more vividly. Autumn colors the surrounding trees, offering a duet of waterfall and foliage. In winter the frozen falls amid the snow feel even more mystical.
