Fudotaki Falls
Falling from the peak of Mitsuo in Ida, Nakanoto, Fudotaki Falls is a beautiful cascade about 20 meters high. Said to have been opened around 1300 years ago by the monk Taicho who opened Hakusan, it was originally called Kumano Falls, but came to be called Fudotaki after a statue of Fudo was placed beside the basin. It is a storied sanctuary where the mountain ascetics of Mount Sekido long undertook severe training.

Enjoying the Seasons
In summer it is popular as a cool retreat, and on the falls-opening day of July 5 each year many believers gather. During the Obon period it is lit up, showing a dreamlike face. The seasons of new greenery and autumn colors bring quiet, beautiful time as well.

A Quick Tip
A mountain path leads to the falls, so wear comfortable shoes. The wisdom water is tied to old tradition, so taste it quietly and with respect. The Obon illumination is especially recommended.
