Keta Shrine

Enshrined in the Ichinomiya district of Fushiki in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, Keta Shrine has long drawn reverence as one of the first shrines of Etchu Province. It is said to have been founded in 718 by the monk Gyoki, and another tradition holds that it was invited from Keta Taisha in Noto during the Tenpyo era of the Nara period. Standing in a quiet setting at the foot of Mount Futagami, it brings a sense of calm to all who visit.

Highlights

- Known as a shrine of marriage bonds, as it enshrines the married deities Okuninushi no Mikoto and Nunakawahime - The accompanying deity Kukurihime is also a goddess of binding ties, drawing those who pray for good or renewed bonds - A dignified main hall designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan - Quiet grounds wrapped in the greenery of Mount Futagami, treasured by those in the know

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring the surrounding hills bud and soft light filters onto the approach. Summer keeps the grounds cool under deep green, perfect for a quiet visit. Autumn foliage adds color to the halls, and winter brings crisp air with snow-capped Mount Futagami as a backdrop. Rarely crowded, the shrine offers a peaceful experience throughout the year.
