8:30 View Onna Rock Enjoy a photogenic scene with the small islet and pine standing at the waters edge. Yoshitsune Rock, the source of the place name, also lies near the station.

10:00 Rest at Michi no Eki Amaharashi Take in all of Toyama Bay from the observation terrace and browse local specialties. It sits right by Amaharashi Station on the JR Himi Line.

11:30 Move to Himi fishing port Feel the lively port town air at a market lined with the mornings catch. The Himi Banyagai market beside the fishing port is handy for meals and souvenirs.

12:30 Lunch with Himi seafood Savor the famous winter yellowtail and fresh sashimi at a local eatery. Yellowtail is the signature taste of Himi's winter.

14:30 Stroll Himimachi shopping street Walk the old fashioned shopping arcade and enjoy the scent of the tide downtown.

Practical Travel Notes

• Time needed: With the Amaharashi view, a walk around Himi, and a seafood lunch, allow half a day to a full day. An early start is best if you want the morning scenery.
• Access: The JR Himi Line from Takaoka Station is convenient to Amaharashi Coast; the nearest Amaharashi Station is about 11 kilometers away. For central Himi, Himi Station on the same line is the base. Buses or cars are handy between the coast and central Himi.
• Conditions for the view: The Tateyama peaks appear across the sea only on days with clear air. Winter mornings are the best chance, when you may even see kearashi, mist rising from the sea surface.
• Gourmet season: Himi means winter yellowtail. In season both the market and eateries come alive. Availability changes with the season and the catch, so checking ahead is reassuring.
• Budget sense: A seafood lunch ranges widely by shop and course. Choose to suit your budget, from market snacking to set meals.

The premise of this itinerary (time needed and transport)

• Time needed: A half-day to full-day course starting at 8:00 and running to around 15:00, allowing roughly 6 to 7 hours.
• Transport: Between Amaharashi Coast (Ota, Takaoka City) and central Himi, the itinerary assumes travel by the JR Himi Line or by car. The Himi Line is a local line, so checking the timetable before you set out is reassuring.
• Order of the visits: Roadside Station Amaharashi opens at 9:00, and the restaurants at Himi Banya-gai open at 11:00. Visiting Amaharashi Coast first to catch the superb morning views and eating later in Himi makes for a comfortable route.

Opening hours / closing days

• Roadside Station "Amaharashi" (24-74 Ota, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture / TEL 0766-53-5661): Open 9:00-17:00 (varies by season, until 19:00 at the latest). No closing days. The information corner on the 1st floor, the cafe and shop on the 2nd floor and the multipurpose room on the 3rd floor follow the same opening hours. The restrooms, the 1st-floor information corner and the observation decks on the 2nd and 3rd floors are open 24 hours.
• Himi Fishing Port Outer Market, Himi Banya-gai (25-5 Kitaomachi, Himi City, Toyama Prefecture / TEL 0766-72-3400): The fresh fish and retail section is open 8:30-18:00, the food court 8:30-18:00, the restaurants 11:00-18:00, and the conveyor-belt sushi 10:00-20:00. Opening hours vary from shop to shop.
• Free footbath (on the way from Himi Banya-gai toward the Himi Onsen-kyo Soyu bathhouse): Open 8:30-17:30.

• Viewing Amaharashi Coast, entering Roadside Station Amaharashi and using the footbath at Himi Banya-gai are all free of charge.
• Seafood lunches vary widely depending on the restaurant and what you order. Himi Banya-gai has a food court, restaurants and conveyor-belt sushi, so you can choose to suit your budget.

Access

• By rail: Amaharashi Station on the JR Himi Line is the nearest station to Amaharashi Coast, and Himi Station is the nearest to central Himi. Takaoka Station is the starting point of the Himi Line.
• By car: Roadside Station "Amaharashi" stands facing Amaharashi Coast. Traveling by car is convenient for getting to Himi Banya-gai in central Himi.

Parking

• Roadside Station "Amaharashi": There are parking lots beside the facility and on its east side. A No. 2 parking lot and a temporary parking lot are also provided for busy times. A motorcycle-only parking area has been newly built at the east parking lot.
• The "bus" parking bays in the east parking lot are reserved for buses and delivery vehicles during opening hours. Official notices ask that vehicles not charging do not park in the "charging-only parking space" for the EV rapid charger.
• The official information notes that there are many visitors day after day and the lots are frequently full. Allow yourself plenty of time.

What needs to be reserved

• No reservation is needed to view Amaharashi Coast or to stop by Roadside Station Amaharashi or Himi Banya-gai.
• The kaiseki plans and group meal menus at Himi Banya-gai require prior consultation and reservation. If you are in a large group, contact them early.

Photography rules and manners

• The official website of Roadside Station "Amaharashi" streams a live camera. You can check the weather and how well the Tateyama mountain range is showing before you set out.
• Along Amaharashi Coast the tracks of the JR Himi Line run beside the sea. Never step onto the tracks or into a level crossing to take photos.
• Parking or stopping on the road along the national route obstructs traffic. Always park in a parking lot before taking photos.
• If you photograph the inside of a shop or facility, have a word with the staff and take care not to capture other customers in your shots.

Points to note and safety

• The Tateyama mountain range can be seen across the sea only on days when the air is clear. Winter mornings offer especially good conditions, but whether it is visible depends on the weather on the day.
• The seaside is windy in winter and the wind chill drops sharply. Bring windproof and warm clothing.
• The rocks at the water's edge are wet and slippery, and dangerous on days with high waves. Do not go near the sea in rough weather.
• Deliveries of seafood such as yellowtail vary with the state of the catch. If there is a particular fish you are after, check with the restaurant in advance.
