🌋 Kagoshima|June 23, 2026

Sogi Falls and Kiyomizu Shrine

Sogi Falls in Isa City, Kagoshima, boasts a grand scale about 210 meters wide and 12 meters high, and is called the Niagara of the East. The flow of water carving across the broad rock bed, together with its roar, is breathtaking. Within the park sits Kiyomizu Shrine, said to bless matchmaking and safe childbirth, where people come to wish for love using heart shaped votive tablets. The combination of grand nature and a small shrine makes this a pleasant, lesser-known power spot.

Highlights

From the viewing point you can take in the whole falls at once. - An impressive scene of white water carving across a vast rock bed. - Kiyomizu Shrine within the park. The heart shaped tablets for wishing on matchmaking and safe childbirth are popular. - The surroundings are maintained as a park, perfect for a leisurely walk.

Enjoying the Seasons

In spring fresh greenery and in autumn colored leaves frame the falls, and during the maple festival season there are also light ups. After spells of rain or when the snow melts, the flow increases and the falls grow even more powerful. In summer the spray brings coolness, and each season shows a different face.
