Katsurahama and Ryoma Landmark Tour

Facing the Pacific, Katsurahama is one of Kochi finest scenic spots, where a statue of Sakamoto Ryoma gazes out to sea. Walk the sandy beach and pine groves, then learn about his life at the memorial museum. Here is a classic route that pairs the ocean with history.

Course Route

9:30 Start at the Ryoma statue in Katsurahama Look up at the large statue standing on the rise and take in its grand figure with the Pacific behind it.

10:00 Stroll the Katsurahama beach Walk the curved sand and pine groves and enjoy the rolling waves and the wide open sea.

11:00 Visit the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum At the museum on the rise overlooking the beach, take your time with his letters and materials about his life.

12:30 Stop by the Urado Castle ruins Enjoy the view from the height where a castle once stood and savor the quiet echoes of history.

Highlights

The statue, over thirteen meters tall, is truly striking. The museum displays valuable items such as reproductions of letters in Ryoma own hand, letting you connect with the man himself.

Access and Tips

Take a bus to Katsurahama from Kochi Station or Sanbashidori. The path from the statue to the museum climbs a slope, so allow plenty of time.

A Quick Tip

Sea winds can be strong on some days, so a light layer brings peace of mind. The sea at dusk from the viewpoints is especially fine.
