• Volcanic information for Ebino Kogen and Mount Io: The eruption warning level for Mount Kirishima (the area around Ebino Kogen / Mount Io) was lowered from Level 2 (restrictions around the crater) to Level 1 (be aware that this is an active volcano) at 11:00 on December 6, 2023, and the eruption forecast (Level 1) remains in effect.
• Restrictions on Prefectural Route 1 (Kobayashi-Ebino Kogen-Makizono Line): The section around Ebino Kogen and Mount Io remains closed to traffic, but because volcanic gas concentrations have stayed below the reference values, it is provisionally opened only on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 17:00. Only enclosed vehicles with a roof may pass; motorcycles and bicycles are not allowed, parking and stopping within the section are prohibited, and the road is closed at night (Ebino City guidance as of July 23, Reiwa 8 (2026)). The opening may be cancelled depending on volcanic activity or weather.
• Hiking trails at Ebino Kogen: For Mount Karakuni, the routes "Kenzakai trailhead to Onamiike to Mount Karakuni," "Onamiike trailhead to Onamiike to Mount Karakuni" and the "Mount Karakuni trailhead" route are open. The route "Hinamoridai trailhead to Obataike to Mount Shishido to Mount Karakuni" is closed. The Ikemeguri Nature Trail turns back at Fudoike (updated by Ebino City on October 17, Reiwa 7 (2025)).
• Takachiho Kagura (Kagura Hall of Takachiho Shrine): Performed every evening from 20:00 to 21:00. Admission is 1,000 yen per person for adults and junior high school students and above, free for elementary school children and younger, and 900 yen per person for groups of 20 or more. There are 230 places bookable online (from 10:00 thirty days in advance until 17:00 on the day) and 50 to 60 places for same-day walk-ins; reception opens at 19:00 for those with reservations and at 19:30 for those wanting same-day tickets. There are no performances on December 31 and January 1, or on November 22 and 23 each year (the Takachiho Yokagura Festival of Myth). The venue is floored with tatami mats and no chairs are lent out.
• Takachiho Gorge rental boats: Open 8:30-17:00 (last reception 16:30, earlier when crowded). 4,100 to 5,100 yen per boat for 30 minutes, capacity 3 people (up to 4 only when preschool children are included). Boats do not operate when the water level is high. For inquiries, contact the Takachiho Town Tourism Association at 0982-73-1213.
• Aoshima Shrine: 2-13-1 Aoshima, Miyazaki City. Amulets are normally issued from 8:00 in summer and from 8:30 in winter.
