Asahi River and Korakuen: Waterside Stroll Connecting Korakuen Garden (One of Japan's Three Great Gardens) and Okayama Castle

Korakuen, spreading on a sandbar of the Asahi River in Okayama City, is a feudal lord garden completed in 1700 by Okayama domain lord Ikeda Tsunamasa. Facing Korakuen across the Asahi River is Okayama Castle. Built by Ukita Hideie, a senior retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, it is affectionately called Ujo (Crow Castle) for its black-boarded exterior. The keep was lost to war but rebuilt, and its interior is now a museum where you can learn the region history. From the top floor you can take in Korakuen, the Okayama townscape, and the flow of the Asahi River.
