On the southern shore of Lake Togo in Yurihama Town, Togo Onsen faces Hawai Onsen across the water and offers a calm, settled atmosphere. This lake is known for springs that rise even from the middle of its bed, creating the curious sight of steam drifting over the surface. Rather than liveliness, this spa suits those who wish to savor the waters and the scenery in quiet.

Highlights

Two foot baths by the shore let visitors cook hot-spring eggs in the naturally heated water, a local specialty. At Togo-Hawai Coastal Park the water is even sold to the public, with a fountain arrangement where you can boil an egg you bring along. A large bathing facility overlooking the lake makes it easy to relax on a day trip. From nearby Matsuzaki Station, the San'in Line offers lake views from the train window, making it a convenient stop on a rail journey.

Enjoying the Seasons

Spring paints the shore with cherry blossoms, while summer's sunsets glow across the water. In autumn you can soak while watching the tinted mountains reflected in the still lake, and in winter, waterfowl gather along its edge. Though understated, the way this spa keeps company with the lake's gentle moods through every season is its quiet appeal.

Access and Basic Information

It lies just outside JR Matsuzaki Station on the San'in Main Line and about a ten-minute drive from Kurayoshi Station, a limited-express stop. It is also close to the Tomari-Togo interchange on the San'in Expressway, making car access easy. The waters are a sodium-calcium chloride-sulfate spring with a high source temperature of 85 to 94 degrees Celsius. The lakeside facility and the two foot baths welcome day visitors, so you can enjoy the waters casually while taking in the view.

Practical Travel Notes

To enjoy making the famous hot-spring eggs, bring a raw egg or pick one up at a nearby shop for a smooth experience. Plan on two to three hours for a foot bath, a soak, and a lakeside walk. Hawai Onsen on the opposite shore is only a few minutes away by car around the lake, or reachable on foot, and a walking course comparing the two spas is a standard outing. The best time is dusk, when the lake glows with sunset; for a quiet lakescape, a winter morning when waterfowl gather is also atmospheric. Foot baths range from free to a few hundred yen, and a day-use bath runs a few hundred to just over a thousand yen.

A Quick Tip

To cook a hot-spring egg at the foot bath, bring a raw egg or pick one up at a nearby shop. Since Hawai Onsen is a short walk or drive away, comparing the two spas on opposite shores of the lake makes for a rewarding outing. As a rare spa where water rises from the lakebed, looking for the steam drifting up from the surface is a small delight.
