To enjoy the whole view of the scattered village, high ground such as the Tonami Plain Scattered Village Observatory and Yume no Taira is recommended. It is especially beautiful in early summer, when the rice paddies filled with water after planting glitter reflecting the setting sun, and in autumn when the rice heads ripen golden. Access and Basic Information

The base is Tonami Station on the JR Johana Line. As the observatories of the scattered village are some distance away, moving by car is convenient. Views from high ground such as the Tonami Plain Scattered Village Observatory and Yume no Taira are the representative viewing spots. Since some sections of the road to the observatories are mountain roads, take care when driving. As the scattered village itself is a landscape spread over a wide area, viewing it while driving is also recommended. The Tulip Park is within walking distance of Tonami Station.

Practical Travel Notes

The best seasons are early summer, when the rice paddies shine like mirrors (after planting), and autumn when the rice heads ripen. Dusk, when the lights of the houses overlap with the color of the sky, is the most fantastical time. On days with clear air, you may even glimpse the Tateyama mountain range beyond the scattered village. Viewing from an observatory takes about 30 minutes to an hour, and if driving around, allowing about half a day lets you enjoy it at leisure. Nearby are the Tulip Park, the Tulip Gallery, and the Shogawa Onsen hot spring area, and touring them together makes for a fulfilling trip.
