Omaki Onsen
Standing alone on the shore of a deep dam lake in the Shogawa Gorge, Omaki Onsen has no road access and can only be reached by sightseeing boat. Its waters, said to carry more than eight hundred years of history, draw visitors into an extraordinary world within the stillness of surrounding mountains and water.
Highlights
After about thirty minutes aboard the sightseeing boat from the pier at Komaki Dam, you arrive at the inn while gazing at the green of the gorge and the blue surface of the lake. From the lakeside open-air bath, the sheer slopes across the water rise close at hand.
Enjoying the Seasons
Fresh green in spring, coolness in summer, foliage in autumn, and snowscapes in winter change the gorge with every season. The view of the lakeside steeped in autumn color is especially exceptional, and many travelers come with this season in mind.
Access and Basic Information
Boats depart from the Shogawa Gorge cruise pier at the Komaki embankment in Tonami City. Besides overnight stays, day-use plans bundled with the cruise are available, and the boat approach itself is a highlight of the trip.
A Quick Tip
Since you must move according to the boat schedule, confirm your round-trip departures in advance. There are no shops nearby, so gather anything you need before boarding for peace of mind.
