Castle Town Associated with the Manyoshu

Takaoka City is a castle town established by Maeda Toshinaga of the Kaga domain in 1609 (Keich 14), with deep associations with the Manyoshu poetry anthology. Many poetry monuments are placed throughout the city for strolling while recalling Manyoshu poems.

Takaoka Copperware Tradition

Takaoka Copperware has 400 years of history and accounts for over 95% of Japan's copperware production. Diverse copperware from Buddhist implements, tea ceremony tools, and flower vases to modern design products are manufactured, with workshop visits available.

Zen Beauty of Zuiryuji Temple

Zuiryuji Temple, designated a National Treasure, is a Soto Zen temple built as Maeda Toshinaga's memorial temple. The orderly temple architecture in the vast grounds embodies Zen beauty, a representative Toyama cultural heritage.
