[MOST IMPORTANT] Akita Prefecture Has Issued an Asian Black Bear Alert

Akita Prefecture has issued an Asian Black Bear Alert covering the entire prefecture (Akita Prefecture official website, updated 25 August 2026).

⚠️ The alert expires on 30 September, but bears remain active through October and November — exactly the foliage peak season. Anyone planning to enter mountain trails around Tamagawa Onsen or the Hachimantai area must check the prefecture's latest information and the Kumadasu app before setting out.

Semboku City has also issued a warning for Dakigaeri Gorge.

Semboku City's official website still carries a closure notice dated 2007 (Heisei 19) stating that the path from the Second Car Park to just before Natsuze-bashi (suspension bridge) is fully closed.
